Doug Melvin, Major League Baseball, Front Office Executive

Doug Melvin is a Major League Baseball front office executive having served 13 years as general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers (2002-2015) and general manager of the Texas Rangers for 6 years (1995-2001). He began his career in professional baseball as a minor league pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees farm systems (1972-1978) before transitioning to the front office as assistant scouting director of the New York Yankees
and later as assistant general manager with the Baltimore Orioles (1987-1994).

In 1996, he received The Sporting News Executive of the Year Award. He was named Baseball Executive of the Year in 2011 by Baseball America and was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2018, Doug was added to the Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor.

He has recently served on the elite selection committee for inductees into the MLB Baseball Hall of Fame. Doug currently serves as a senior special advisor to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Doug Melvin and his wife, Ellen, recently moved from Milwaukee to the Tampa Bay Area. They have two children, Ashley, who resides in Chicago, and son, Cory, who is a professional baseball scout based in Tampa for the New York Yankees.
