LIEUTENANT COLONEL BRIAN GRIEFER, Deputy Mission Support Group Commander, Senior Air Reserve Technician with the 927th Air Refueling Wing, US Air Force

Lt Col Griefer is the Deputy Mission Support Group Commander, Senior Air Reserve Technician with the 927th ARW. In this capacity, he provides Command and Leadership as the full-time Mission Support Group Commander equivalent for 3 Squadrons and 1 Flight in the 927th Mission Support Group consisting of over 300 personnel. This includes the Security Forces Squadron (SFS), Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS), Force Support Squadron (FSS), and a Communications Flight.
Lt Col Griefer served as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) in the United States Air Force Reserve and was assigned to Headquarters Air Force (HAF), A4S Security Forces Directorate, Pentagon, Washington D.C. In this assignment, he served as the IMA to the Chief of the Readiness Division. He was assigned as the HAF A3 Unit Reserve Coordinator (URC) providing guidance to over 85 Individual Mobilization Augmentees, as well as the A4S URC. Additionally, Lt Col Griefer was assigned to the AF Office of Special Investigations HQ as the Operations Chief of the Dept of the Air Force Criminal Justice Information cell where he reviewed and approved Air Force firearms prohibitions.
Lt Col Griefer was the Chief of Security Forces Operations/Deputy Chief, of Security Forces, Air National Guard Readiness Center, A4S. He also acted as the
Chief of Security Forces for 9 months. His division was responsible for the organizing, training, and equipping of ANG Security Forces to meet both its
Federal and State missions. The division supported ANG units by developing policy and obtaining resources on matters relating to ground combat skills, force protection, antiterrorism, physical security, resource protection, information and personnel security and Combat Arms training and instruction.
Prior to this assignment, he was the 108th Security Forces Commander, New Jersey Air National Guard, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. He was the Chief of Security Forces for all matters concerning the health, welfare, morale, effective utilization and professional development for 120-plus men and women. He directed air base defense functions including control and security of terrain inside and immediately adjacent to military installations, and defense of personnel, equipment and resources. He has led and directed individual and team patrol movements, tactical drills, battle procedures, convoys, military operations other than war, antiterrorism duties, and other special duties.
Lt Col Griefer was the Acting Current Operations Division Chief for National Guard Bureau (NG J-33). In this position, he oversaw the National Guard Coordination Center (NGCC) during a critical time when the nation was struck with multiple back-to-back hurricanes causing loss of life and extensive damage to multiple States and Territories.
Lt Col Griefer was also assigned to the National Guard Bureau Joint Staff as a certified Team Chief in the National Guard Coordination Center (NGCC), where he supervised the daily operations of a national level operations center which communicates with all State and Federal Territory Joint Operations Centers and produced information products for the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and his staff.
Lt Col Griefer began his military career in 1990 when he enlisted in the New Jersey Army National Guard. In 1992, he transferred to the New Jersey Air National Guard, joining joined the 108th Tactical Fighter Wing Security Forces Squadron as an Airman First Class. Immediately after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, Lt Col Griefer mobilized for Operations NOBLE EAGLE and ENDURING FREEDOM. He deployed to several locations within and outside the continental United States, serving as the Detainee Movement Training and Logistics Officer for OPERATION IRONCLAD, and during OPERATION KATRINA to support local law enforcement in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lt Col Griefer deployed again in 2007 as the Security Forces Operations Officer at Sather Air Base, Baghdad, Iraq for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He led eight joint combat search operations and was the Area Defense Center “Battle Captain” during numerous enemy attacks. In 2010, he commanded the 15th Security Forces Squadron (SFS), Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. Most recently, he served as the Joint National Guard Commander in Ocean County New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, coordinating New Jersey National Guard civil support with local emergency response and civilian leadership.
Lt Col Griefer is a retired 25-year civilian law enforcement veteran of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Bergen County, NJ, as a Lieutenant of Detectives. In his career he worked in, and, supervised the Special Victims and Homicide Squads as well as was the Commanding officer of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Team, working jointly with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and numerous Federal agencies to provide counter-terrorism security for the New York metropolitan area.
